Prudential: Oracle Technical – February edition

February already!  Busier than ever, helpline phones and emails have been hot with 500 more queries this January than last. Anyone would think things were getting more complicated…   And only a few weeks away from the first of what will be two budgets this year!

So, topical technical matters affecting financial planners.

Graeme Robb, takes a look  at the ‘tartan gap’ that’s creating the ‘people with 2 basic rate limits’ – or Scottish resident taxpayers as they are also known. 

We’ll (hopefully)  bring the curtain down on the Lobler saga with Helen O’Hagan’s article on the changes to bond taxation.

Clare Moffat is taking a look at the Inheritance Tax (IHT) treatment of pension transfers. It’s had a lot of coverage last year but it’s moved on a little with the appeal on the Staveley case having been heard.

Jaqueline Cleazy pokes her head above the parapet of the Life Q&As, to bring some clarity on the operation of the Money Purchase Annual Allowance (MPAA). Important stuff given the consultation on reducing it to £4,000 has just concluded.

Barrie Dawson picks up the Pension Q&As. Each month Prudential technical team monitor what their  getting asked, ‘other’ usually  features highly. He’s  covered some common ‘other’ things!
